First dates are always awkward, even more so at a quiet dinner. Here, the conversation should flow naturally the whole time. But sometimes, other than random comments about the weather and the food, things can get kind of quiet. Instead of asking the usual first date questions like where they’re from or how their last weekend was, you can get some interesting conversations going by asking some of the following questions:

- What were you doing yesterday at 6:30PM? Your date can reply they were stuck in traffic, taking a nap, at home baking, etc. This can sometimes spark a conversation and take it in a new direction.
- What would you be doing if we weren’t out on a date right now?
- What’s the longest you’ve gone without sleep? Their answer can lead to more discussion, since they can say they were studying, waiting for a movie, for Black Friday, etc.
- Who was on your wall in your bedroom when you were a teenager?
